HISTORY AND PHILOSOPHY

In December 1987, a group of friends united by a shared passion for vintage boats decided to found an association that could give voice to this common interest. The first step was to choose a name that would represent its essence: thus ASDEC – Associazione Scafi d’Epoca e Classici – Nautical Historical Register was born.

From its inception, ASDEC has had a clear objective: to bring together people passionate about vintage and classic boats. We wish to emphasize that ours is an association of people, not of boats: anyone who shares this love for traditional yachting is welcome.

We speak of “hulls” and not generically of boats because we want to highlight our attachment to the noblest and most defining structure of a vessel: the hull itself. The word “vintage” refers to those vessels which, having exceeded 25 years of age, begin to be ennobled by time. However, our interest also extends to more recent boats which, while not strictly historic, embody the spirit, elegance, and tradition of classic construction: this is why we added the term “classic.”

WHAT DOES ASDEC PROPOSE?

OBJECTIVES

ASDEC is concretely committed to the conservation, valorization, and collection of documentation for vintage and classic hulls. We deal with every type of pleasure or working craft, whether motor, sail, or row.

The most represented types among our members include:

  • Open Motorboats, such as the famous Runabout models
  • Sailing Boats, both cabin and non-cabin
  • Motoryacht
  • Rowing Boats

Another of our fundamental aims is to collect and preserve the historical memory linked to the vessels. To this end, we established the Nautical Historical Register, where we keep detailed records of boats certified by ASDEC, including technical, historical, and restoration data.
